Dear Santa,

October 30, 2007

This week year has really sucked.  But…

I think I have been a very good girl despite all that and I’ve got the awards to prove it.

Misty Dawn thinks I’m a bloggin’ Wonder Woman and I’m good for the community:

and Trinity thinks I’m a sweet treat..I mean sweet as a treat! and she appreciates my friendship.  Shoot, even Gidge thinks I’m a good friend despite all the harassing I give her.  See?….

This might be more on the sad side than good, but I even got this award and don’t remember who gave it!

Which kind of defeats the whole point of the award, but….

There are definitely days that I don’t feel sweet, nice, friendly, or like a hero, but these ladies are just a few that are to me.  Actually, you know what Santa?  Skip me and please make sure these ladies have an extra special Christmas this year.  I’ll just head over to Rocks in my Dryer and try to pick up a few giveaways.

Song…song of the south, sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth

October 9, 2007

Overwhelmed with Joy is having her 2nd annual Holiday Cooking, Blogger Style recipe exchange.  You wouldn’t believe the food these people eat over the holidays!!!  Good grief…It’s going to take me all year to try every one of them (and yes, I will!).

J’s aunt makes the chef’s on the Food Network look like a bunch of pansies!  My very favorite dish of hers is her Sweet Potato Pie Casserole.

This is what I’ll be fixing for Thanksgiving this year.

I have to tell you that this week on the Food Network I saw this chicky-mama make Sweet Pototo Pie and served it for dessert!!!  Have you ever heard of such nonsense?!  Honey…you don’t serve Shepherd’s Pie for dessert do you???  Girl, SPP is meant to go on your plate next to a huge slab of turkey, a mountain of buttermilk mashed potatoes, and a glob of green bean casserole!  Amateur…

2 (40oz) cans of sweet pot, drained
1 stick of melted butter (Oh Jesus, take the wheel…)
2 eggs
1/2 c. evaporated milk
3/4 c. sugar
1 t. vanilla

Mash potatoes with masher.  Slightly beat eggs and add to potatoes.  Add rest of ingredients and mix well together.  Put in a greased 9×13 dish.

1 c. brown sugar packed
1/3 c. softened butter
1/2 c. flour
1 c. pecans

Mix ingredients together and crumble on top of the sweet pot. mixture.  Bake @ 350 for 45 minutes to an hour.

And, dear Lord, don’t serve it for dessert.  That’s what pumpkin pie is for!

July 27, 2007

This summer’s giveaway from Rocks in my Dryers was a HUGE success (and she’ll be doing it again this Fall!!)  I had a ball reading all the comments that people left.  I know that everyone is just as excited as I am to see if what they’ve won.  So here’s the winners for my giveaways:

Giveaway package #1:  Heather from Madame Rubies has won the Indian painting and cards.  Congrats Heather!!!!

Giveaway package #2:  Mama Money won the jewelry and cards.  She’s was hoping to win so she could give one of the cards to her boss who is from India.  Congratulations!!

Thanks to everyone that left comments.  You can bet I’ll be doing this again in the Fall….it’s too much fun!

*I used the Integer Generator from Random.Org to randomly pick the winners.*

Gack! My blogging story??

June 11, 2007

Chilihead is holding a cool ‘little’ blogging carnival today.  Someone was asking her about her blogging story and thought it would be a great way for people to get to know other bloggers so she opened it up for everyone.  Below is my blogging story:

  • How did you start blogging?  Originally it was because my family was so spread out that it was a great way for us all to communicate with each other.  Now I have a separate one open to the public.
  • Did you intend to be a blog w/a following? If so, how did you go about it? No…I had NO idea the blogging phenomenon that was out there.  It was an amazing discovery.
  • What do you hope to achieve or accomplish with your blog? I’m just a woman who shares thoughts and ideas that other people might have as well.  Have you been successful? Yes, I guess…it doesn’t take much for me to blab on and on to strangers and friends a like!  I think I’m pretty good at listening too since I find myself reading more and more blogs lately.  There are some really interesting people out there!
  • Has the focus of your blog changed since you started blogging? How?  Not really.  I may be changing a few things since I’ve been able to get “into the groove” of blogging in general.
  • What do you know now that you wish you’d known when you started?  How much time it takes to keep the readers coming. You can’t miss a day!  Also, I’m really surprised by the ratio of lurkers vs. commenters.  It’s like pulling eye teeth to get people to show they’re there.  Then again maybe my feeder numbers are all wacked!
  • Do you make money with your blog?  HA!  Yeah…right… Nope.
  • Does your immediate or extended family know about your blog? If so, do they read it? If not, why? Yes, they know, but they don’t comment.  They’d rather just call me and give me an earful (“I beg you’re pardon…we were NOT officially white trash!”  Love you mum!)
  • What two pieces of advice would you give to a new blogger?  1) This will take so much of your time, so be prepared.  2) You will get negative comments.  Don’t let this get to you.  As with every person you come across live, you need to chew up the meat and spit out the bones.  People can be stupid and you can always envision them locked up in a room with 30 screaming 2 year olds with no toys, snacks or clean diapers!
  • I’m sure there will be a ton more blogging stories so head on over to Chili’s and get to know some more bloggers.  That’s where I’ll be today….
